FAQs

Q: Can I book extra nights before or after the race?
A: Yes, please get in touch with us and we will be happy to book the extra nights for you. We also offer various extension trips and we are happy to work with you to create a full extension package if you like.

Q. Is the race entry guaranteed if I book a package through Active Holiday Company?
A. Yes, all of our World Marathon Majors packages come with guaranteed race entry.

Q: Will I have to collect my own bib?
A: Yes, all the World Marathon Majors require that the participants attend the expo in person and collect their own bibs. Your travel documents will contain detailed instructions on how to get to and from the expo from your hotel.

Q: How far is the hotel from the start/finish line?
A: The London Marathon starts at Greenwich and ends at The Mall just after Buckingham Palace. Our strategically located hotel is within walking distance from Waterloo Tube station from where you can take a tube and go straight to the start. After you finish the race, you are less than 1.5 km from your hotel. Your hotel location is one of the best things you can expect travelling with us.

Q: What category of hotels are used?
A: The Premier Inn London County hotel is superbly loved by our runners and has been picked for it's location and ease of access rather than its star rating although we do believe they offer superb service. Please check their Trip Advisor ratings here.

Q: I am a single traveller, is it possible for me to get a twin share room?
A: We have several solo travellers interested in sharing a room with another traveller and, wherever possible, we try to pair up people who have requested rooms on twin share. However, please keep in mind that this is not a guarantee and in some cases you might be required to take a single supplement.

Q: Is it possible for me to buy just the race entry and make my own accommodation arrangements?
A: As Tour Operators, we are required to sell the race entry along with accommodation. It is not be possible to buy just the race entry.

Q: I’ve got the race entry through the Ballot / Charity, can I stay with the Active Holiday Company group?
A: Yes, it is possible for you to stay with our group if you already have the entry or if you are travelling with a non-running companion. Staying at the same hotel as the rest of the group travelling on our package offers many benefits and many runners do like to stay with us even when they have their own entries.

Q: I am taking the race package through Active Holiday Company, is it possible for me to upgrade my accommodation?
A: Unfortunately it is not possible for group members to stay at different hotels. Our trips are planned to have the whole group staying together and our hotel contracts are also done accordingly, so it is not be possible to accommodate individual hotel preferences since you are part of a group booking.

Q. I cannot attend this race. Is it possible for me to transfer my registration to another runner?
A. The Virgin Money London Marathon does not allow runners to transfer their spots to another runner. However those who register through Tour Operators are permitted to defer their entry for another year and although they do need to pay for the entry again, their space for the following year is guaranteed. Please contact us to find out details on the exact process. None of the other World Major Marathons allow this.

Q. Will you be able to assist me with visas and air tickets?
A. Yes, we can help you with visas and flight tickets for an additional charge. Please get in touch with us for details.

    Great Trip and Special Run

It was a well organized trip with very clear instructions at every stage. I couldn't attend some of the group events due to work, but thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the run. This was my sixth marathon and sixth world major, so it was a special run :) In fact, I ran my first marathon with Active Holiday Company (Berlin, 2016) and ran three of the (six) marathons (including Tokyo 2018) with them.

Tips for future travellers for this trip

Leave everything to Active Holiday Company and enjoy the trip!
