Experience

Tibet continues to be a mystical land and is often referred to as the roof of the world, with its plateau (of over 3 miles above sea level) surrounded by imposing Himalayas. Central Tibet or U- Tsang is one of the three culture division of Tibet. On this trip you will explore this isolated Buddhist land,   visiting the monasteries, the mighty Potala Palace, unravel the holy Barkhor circuit, and take in stunning scenic views of the Yamdrok Lake –also called the "tortoise lake”. The highlight however could be a cultral introduction to the home of the Dalai Lama includes a visit to a local Tibetan home. 

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Lhasa Open or Close

On arrival at Lhasa Airport, you are greeted and received by Active Holiday Company’s local Tibetan guide with a customary Hadda (a white silk stole used to greet guests). You will be transferred to the hotel and spend the rest of your day is at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 2
Lhasa – Potla Palaca, Barkhor Circuit, Thangka Art Gallery Open or Close

After breakfast, enjoy a full day guided tour of Lhasa, visiting the mighty Potala Palace - the landmark of Tibet that once served as the winter residence of the Dalai Lama, Jokhang monastery - the holiest temple in Tibet and later take a walking tour on the holy Barkhor circuit. In addition visit a Thangka Art Gallery to check out this unique and traditional art of Tibet. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3
Lhasa - Drepung Monastery, Norbulingka Park, Tibet Museum Open or Close

After breakfast, enjoy a full day tour around Lhasa to explore the holy Drepung monastery - the sacred land of Gelug Sect, Norbulingka Park, the Summer Palace of the Dalai Lama and the Sera Monastery to observe its famous monks debating. If time permits, you can visit Tibet Museum to learn more about the history, culture, custom and religion of Tibet and its people on the snow land. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 4
Lhasa – Yamdrok – Gyantse Open or Close

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Gyantse. En route visit Yamdrok Lake - which was called the “tortoise lake” and is considered one of the three holiest lakes in Tibet. In the noon pass by the 5010 m high Karo La and the Simi La to Gyantse (approx. 3950 m). On arrival to Gyantse visit Kumbum Chorten (Stupa), the 100-Thousand-Buddha Pagoda, walk on the ancient street of Gyantse and visit the Gyantse Fort, which is the ruin of former Gyantse Dzong. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5
Gyantse – Shigarse Open or Close

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and drive to Shigatse. On the way to Shigatse, a side path will take you to the ancient monastery Shalu (Xialu). Later in the noon arrive at Shigatse (3880m), the second largest city with 40,000 inhabitants in Tibet and the traditional capital of the Tsang. Later explore the mighty Tashilunpo Monastery of Gelug School, the seat of the Panchen Lama built in 1447 AD and one of the six grand monasteries in Tibet. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 6
Shigatse – Lhasa Open or Close

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and enjoy a long drive to Lhasa. Enroute stop to visit a local Tibetan family to learn about the daily life of the ordinary Tibetan population on the Plateau. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 7
Departure from Lhasa Open or Close

After breakfast, check out of the hotel and transfer to Lhasa Airport for your onward journey.
