Laos is Southeast Asia's only landlocked country and is also among the only communist states left in today's world. It relies quite heavily on foreign aid. Its official language is Lao and the currency is the kip. While all small transactions are carried out in kip, larger prices are generally quoted in US dollars or Thai Baht.

Also known as The Land of a Million Elephants, Laos has everything – untouched tropical forests, great opportunity for adventure and alluring monuments. Two endangered animals that can be found in Laos are tigers and Asian elephants, the rivers are fantastic for kayaking, there are some incredible trails to walk and places like Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng will leave you in awe.

The dry season in Laos is from October to April. Although you can visit Laos through the year, November to February is ideal as it is cooler and there is less rain.
