Spanish is the official language of Peru. Indigenous people speak Quechua. Few in the capital, Lima, understand English. Nuevo sol is the official currency. Traveller’s cheques and credit cards can be used in cities. For more remote towns, carry enough cash. Counterfeit currency and thefts are common problems faced here. The best time to visit Peru varies depending on the region and activity planned.
