East Europe: Cyprus

Cyprus is an island country located in Eastern Mediterranean, and is known for some of the most exotic and beautiful beaches of the world. This country is also famed for the archaeological sites relating to the cult of Aphrodite, and the story of its tumultuous history can be seen in the ruins of ancient palaces, tombs and mosaic-adorned villas. With a diverse culture of the Greek south and the Turkish north, Cyprus is indeed a compelling tourist destination.

Some of the must sees in Cyprus would include the harbour town of Kyrenia with its historic castle, Ship Wreck Museum, and the town itself is atmospheric and diminutive; Selimiye Mosque, the Bedestan Church, and the medina style markets of Nicosia; explore Paphos, the vibrant coastal town of Cyprus; learn the process of traditional wine making in the scenic slopes around Omodos. The adventure enthusiasts can go on a summer hike on the Kaledonia and Artemis Trails, and kayaking, snorkelling, and scuba diving can be done in the waters off Pafos.

Greek and Turkish are the local languages here, but English is widely used. Euro is the currency and exchange is available at banks. The people are very warm and excellent hosts. The best time to visit would be March-June and September-October.
