Experience

Welcome to Iceland - the land of extremes. A place where fire and ice co-exist. Where dark winters are offset by the summer’s midnight sun.
Few places in the world come close to Iceland in displaying the forces that went into making the of the world. During the course of our trip we’ll witness  geysers gush, mudpots gloop, ice-covered volcanoes rumble and glaciers cut great pathways through the mountains. Only in Iceland does a dip in a pool becomes a soak in a geothermal lagoon (of which there are numerous).
We start our trip in the capital city of Reykjavik - we’ll take a tour of the city and trace the Viking history of Iceland.   Starting from Reykjavik, on our road trip of Iceland we will visit the geothermal area of Haukadalur Valley, stop at the Hellisheidarvirkjun power plant - one of the largest geothermal power stations in the world, walk behind the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and take a guided walk in the Lieðaraendi Lava Tube. We will also have time to soak in the Blue Lagoon, witness the spectacular beauty of the Skogarfoss waterfall, and hike a glacier.
On this action packed trip we will visit places of spectacular natural beauty and gain an understanding of the vast processes that go into the making of this planet.
Make your geography lessons come to life on this once-in-a-lifetime trip to Iceland!

Day 3
Golden Circle Open or Close

Our geological adventure starts off in spectacular fashion with a road trip around the golden circle. We visit one of the world’s largest geothermal power plants, stop off at the Thingvellir National Park which sits in a Rift Valley created by two tectonic plates pulling the earth apart millions of years ago.
After lunch we head over to Geysir - the valley boasts a plethora of hot springs and geysers, including the powerful Strokkur - watch as it shoots vast jets of boiling water between 20 and 40 meters into the air!
Meals: Breakfast, soup Lunch, Dinner

Day 4
South Shore – Glacier hike - Vik Open or Close

We continue the road trip on the South Shore of Iceland - home to some of the world’s most spectacular waterfalls - take a walk behind the Seljalandsfoss Waterfall and witness the majesty of the Skogarfoss falls.
The day gets even more exciting from here with a trip to the Solheimajokull glacier - approximately 11-km-long outlet glacier, which advances from Myrdalsjokull glacier, down a one to two km wide valley. Because of its location and shape, it is sensitive to climate change - in 2010 it was almost one kilometre further up the valley than in 1930 and was 120 to 150 m thinner than in 1960. This is climate change in action!
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 5
Lava center—Hvaðageiði hotel spring—Leiðarendi Lava tube Open or Close

As a follow up to the ice from yesterday, today we have fire. We learn all about volcanoes and tectonics at the Lava Centre. Later, witness all this first hand with a guided walk inside the Leiðarendi Lava tube.
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 6
Bessataðir—Kleifarvatn—Krisuvik—Optional: Blue Lagoon Open or Close

Start the day with a visit to the Kleifarvatn Lake - the hot and cold dichotomy continues here. The lake sits on a giant fissure with hot water from some hot springs running into the lake on the southern edge. Everywhere else the lake is very, very cold!
We end our geological tour of Iceland with the remarkable solfatara fields of Krýsuvík, where you’ll discover an expanse of steaming volcanic vents and boiling hot springs, framed dramatically by a range of multi-coloured hills.
Back in Reykjavik, you have the evening for an optional trip to the Blue Lagoon - a large lake that has the perfect temperature to bathe in, on average it's 39°C. It is also featured in almost every Instagram feed recording a trip to Iceland!
