Whether you are aspiring to get your travel photos published in NatGeo, dreaming of your own travel blog, or just want to explore your interest a little more, our photography internship in Ladakh will introduce you to the world of photography that will not only teach you the tricks to capture and create stunning travel photographs but also connect you with your passion at a deeper level! 
Classroom sessions on equipment, composition and use of light will come together with practical sessions on visual, design & emotional elements of good photography. Set in the  stark yet beautiful landscapes of Ladakh, you’ll also get to capture the beauty of super-blue lakes, drive on the highest motorable road in the world, see wildlife unique to the region and learn about an ancient culture unchanged for centuries.  
Selvaprakash Lakshmanan, our photographer-in-chief on this trip, is an International Award Winning photographer and his work has been published in The New York Times, Outlook Traveler, Asian Geo and many more.

Day 1
Leh - Arrival Open or Close

We arrive in Leh this morning and meet the guide at the airport for the transfer to the hotel. All flights arrive into Leh in the morning and we will have the day free today to acclimatise, attend a short briefing session, and take a walk around the town.

Day 2
Introduction to photography and visit to Leh Palace Open or Close

We begin at 10am this morning with a classroom session on the introduction to photography, some skills, and an introduction to the type of photography you will be doing while on this trip.
We break-up for lunch and some free time before a visit to the Leh Palace - a nine storey structure built in the 17th century by Ladakhi famous King Senge Namgyal. It is now managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Shanti Stupa, built by Japanese master in 1995, and inaugurated by H.H.Dalai Lama of Tibet, is perfect for panoramic views of Leh and surrounding areas of Indus valley.
We return to the hotel in the evening for dinner and some free time.

Day 3
Market visit, classroom session and Khardung La Pass Open or Close

Dawn and dusk are the best times for photography and we begin the day with a 6am visit to Leh old town. You will have plenty of time to put all these newly acquired skills to use as we walk around the winding streets visiting the Ladakh arts and media organization and old Bakery street - home to the many Kashmiri roti vendors.  
Return to the hotel for breakfast and some free time before the classroom sessions later in the morning.
After lunch this afternoon, we head out towards Khardongla pass (5,600 m) the highest motorable road in the world. The view from the top are spectacular and perfect for practicing some landscape photography. You will be able to see all the way south over the Indus valley to the seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range. We spend some time here before heading back to Leh town and the hotel.

Day 4
Leh market – Classroom session - Sangam point – Spituk monastery Open or Close

We begin the day with an early morning visit to Leh market - the perfect opportunity for you to practise your portrait skills as we walk through the many meandering lanes.
After breakfast at the hotel you will have some free time before your classroom session today. We break for lunch before resuming the sessions.
At about 3pm we head out and drive towards the western part of Ladakh and follow the Indus river and stop at the magnetic hill, which defies the law of gravity. Few minutes down the road is the Gurudwara Patthar Sahib nestled deep in the Himalayas, which was built by the Lamas of Leh in 1517 to commemorate the visit of Guru Nanak Dev. En-route, to Spituk Monastery we visit confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers. Once there, we take in the panoramic views of the Indus Valley before heading back to the Leh town.

Day 5
Classroom session - Pangong Tso Open or Close

Start the day with a short classroom session before leaving the hotel for the drive to Pangong Tso which begins with spectacular views of Thiksey monastery, famous for its architectural similarities with the Potala palace of Lhasa. The monastery covers an entire hill. Beyond this village, you will drive towards the Changla pass (5,300 m), leaving the Leh Manali road on your right hand side. The long easy ascent takes you to Changla pass through its winding roads passing through Sakti Village. Stop at the Changla Pass for a quick photograph session and drive down to the village of Tangtse, where you can relax for a cup of tea and some practise with portrait photography. Leaving Tangtse for Pangong you pass through few small villages of Changthang and finally you can have a sudden view of the lake. The Pangong Lake view is dramatic, surrounded by colourful mountains and it's reflection makes the lake beautiful. The colour of the lake changes multiple time throughout the day with the colour of the sky and sun.
Spend the afternoon exploring the area and putting into practise all the landscape photography lessons we’ve had so far.
Tonight, we learn a little more about low-light photography and get to try our hand at doing star-trails!

Day 6
Pangong Tso - Leh Open or Close

After breakfast at Pangong Tso, we leave for drive back to Leh. Expect to arrive late in the afternoon in time to head out for some twilight photography in Leh before some free time in the evening.

Day 7
Day in Leh - Classroom session - Namgyal Tsemo Open or Close

We begin our last day on the trip with another early morning session around Leh town before breaking-up for breakfast and some free time.
As always, the classroom session this morning is followed by lunch and another short classroom session before we head out to Namgyal Tsemo or Victory peaks as as it is more popularly known. An ancient castle at the highest point in Leh, it was built by King Drakpa Bumde and Lehchen Spakar and affords spectacular views of the whole of Leh town.
We have some free time this evening for souvenir shopping and a last look around the town.

Day 8
Departure - Leh Open or Close

All flights from Leh leave early in the morning and we will be transferred as a group to the airport for our flights back home.

Q. What flights should I book? 
Flights are not included in your trip. All flights arrive in Leh in the morning and we will have an Active Holiday Company representative at the airport to meet your ward. 
Q. Will vegetarian food be easily available? 
The lodge has a choice of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food available for all meals. 
Q. Can specific dietary requirements be managed? 
Yes, they can. If you have any food allergies do let us know well in advance so we can plan the meals accordingly. 
Q. Can volunteers choose which activities they want to participate in? 
This trip is meant to expose volunteers to different experiences and the more you do, the more you will learn. All volunteers are expected to participate in all planned activities.
Q. What will a typical day look like?
Most of our days will be structured as follows: 
6am to 8:30am - Outdoor photography session
8:30am - 10:30am - breakfast and free time 
11:00 - 1pm - Classroom session
1pm - 2pm - Lunch
2pm - 3:30pm - Classroom session
3:30pm - 6:30pm - Outdoor photography session
6:30pm onward - free time
