With over 70% of the World’s coral reefs under threat and over 2000 marine species listed as endangered, there is no better time to gain a better understanding of marine conservation, the challenges faced, and what we can do to make a difference.
During the course of this program we will be working on restoring and rehabilitating coral reefs in the Andamans, working with local school kids to get a better understanding of their perspective and how the local communities are working on the conservation projects, visiting the mangroves to learn how these are essential to marine life and biodiversity in the region. You will, of course, also be doing the PADI Open Water SCUBA diving course and will come away from this programs as certified divers (those under 15 at the time of the course will get a PADI Junior certification)! Once we have the certifications we will head out for dives on various coral reefs, work on fish ID and gain an understanding on how each of these species is important to the gauging the health of our oceans.
The program is divided into two parts - The SCUBA diving course and the marine conservation internship. All days will be a combination of both aspects with diving for one half of the day and the internship for the other half of the day. Once the course is over, you can expect to do some research dives and spend more time on the conservation aspect of the program.

  • Get your PADI Open Water Diver Certification
  • Learn about Island Biogeographical systems and species adaptions
  • Snorkel in beautiful reefs whilst collecting vital coral bleaching data
  • Interact with the local community and work with a local school
  • End your days with project reports, group presentations / discussions but also laughter & fun stories
  • Return with a certificate (issued jointly by Active Holiday Company and Reefwatch) that looks good on college applications and your CV
