There is no better way to sight-see in this historic city than by foot and you will get to enjoy all of the significant sights along the route of this race. The course is specifically designed to include many classic monuments, buildings and piazzas. The route winds around the old town centre past Piazza Venezia, Bocca della Verita, Teatro di Marcello, Circus Maximus, the Coliseum, and the Roman Forum. So top off an unforgettable vacation in the land of architecture and culture, with the Rome Marathon.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival in Rome (Friday) Open or Close

On arrival in Rome, make your way from the airport to the hotel.

Later in the evening go on to explore the streets of Rome on a guided afternoon sightseeing tour. Set out on foot before sunset from Piazza del Popolo, passing baroque fountains and statues en route to Campo de' Fiori. You’ll stop by Pincio Terrace, Piazza di Trevi, Piazza della Rotonda and Piazza Navona, and hear about the city’s landmarks and history from your guide, an expert in art history.

Should you arrive early, feel free to visit the expo.

Day 2
Explore Rome (Saturday) Open or Close

Today, you have the day free to spend as you please.

The eternal city has much to offer. Italy’s capital, it is a sprawling, cosmopolitan city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Ancient ruins such as the Forum and the Colosseum evoke the power of the former Roman Empire. Vatican City, headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church, has St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Museums, which house masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel frescoes.

Please make time today to visit the expo and collect your bib if you haven't already.

Day 3
Race Day! (Sunday) Open or Close

Race Day is finally here! After an early breakfast, set off on your run in the eternal city. The race starts at 08.50 AM from Via dei Fori Imperiali.

Departure from Rome (Monday) Open or Close

With a medal in the bag and bragging rights galore, say good bye to Rome today. Or even better - extend your trip to explore Italy for a few more days!

This affordable hotel is 1.5 km away from the start and finish of the Rome Marathon. Walk 10 minutes from the Roma Termini train station and you arrive at this simple no-fuss hotel in a charming 19th-century building. The rooms are simple and outfitted with classic wood furnishings and free Wi-Fi. 

Exclusions

  • Typically, the cost of flights, visas, passport, insurance is not included in the tour price unless stated otherwise.
  • Any meals not mentioned as included are at your own expense.

Things you need to know

FAQs

The loop course will start near the Coliseum and pass many spectacular sites such as Piazza Venezia, the Roman Forum, Piazza Navona and the Vatican. Average temperatures range between 50F-70F. All runners must also complete a form that attests that they are healthy and fit enough to complete a marathon. This is required by Italian law. We will mail this form to you.
