Itinerary

Day 1
Arrival. Introduction Talk. Welcome Dinner Open or Close

Welcome to Manali. You can reach this popular mountain town via Kullu or via Chandigarh (please read under Important Information to know how the best ways to get there). Depending on what time you arrive you will have some time free to familiarise yourself with the town. We start the camp at 4 pm with an introductory talk on how to get the most out of your training. The talk will cover the important elements of a smart running program. Later you'll attend a welcome dinner where you'll get to meet your fellow participants and of course network with your coaches who have incredible stories based on their personal experiences.
Meals: Hi-Tea, Dinner

Day 2
Easy Run, Local Hike, Coaching Sessions & Talk (Running Form) Open or Close

We start the day with an easy run. Before we head out you will go through your first practical guided session on Dynamic Mobilisation Techniques. Post run we'll go through the correct Stretching Techniques. Making changes to form and performance in running is the sum of many small and important points such as these. You will get some time to yourself after breakfast. Post the afternoon session today includes General Strength and Conditioning we will head out for a easy sunset hike. Today's pre-dinner talk is on Running Biomechanics & Form. If you are up to it, join us for a movie screening on Boston Marathon.
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 3
Hill Running, Conditioning Sessions & Talk (Ultra & Multi-Stage) Open or Close

What is a running retreat in Manali without a hill run? Your morning Hill Running session today will be preceded with Technique Drills. After breakfast you'll have time to explore places around Manali - Solang Valley, Hampta Pass, Sethan are some of your possible options. Today's afternoon session is focussed around conditioning. We will tackle Glutes & Hamstrings and the foot & ankle region in two back to back sessions. Later today, our Ultra and Trail expert will talk you through Ultra Running and Multi-Stage events that are gaining popularity around the world.
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 4
Trail Running, Recovery, Goal Setting Open or Close

After a dinner talk on trail running, it seems appropriate that today starts with an easy trail run. Trail Running can be superbly enjoyable and for those who want to push their limits, it can be technical as well. Your run today will be followed by an introduction to trail running equipment. After a relaxed breakfast we will glide into a very important expert talk on the Art of Recovery. This will be followed by a session on Soft Tissue Release. You will have some time to yourself after lunch and early evening we will engage in a discussion on Finding your potential and Goal Setting with the two athlete-coaches who have continued to push the bar on their own performance. Dinner and a movie will follow before we call it a day today.
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 5
Long Run. Optional Extension to Lahaul, Spiti Valley Open or Close

We will apply all of our learnings on todays 2 hour long run which will be a mix of trail and asphalted roads. Post breakfast we'll head out for the full day excursion to Lahaul in Spiti Valley. You'll notice the stark difference in the terrain as well as the change in the altitude on the other side of a mountain. The region is an important buddhist center and is dotted with monasteries and gompas and is certainly off the tourist track compared to other parts of this region. Your included lunch on this excursion will be as local as it can get. For those not taking the optional excursion you can go hiking or explore Manali town on your own. Our services end today, however you are welcome to extend if like.
Meals: Breakfast. The Optional Trip includes Lunch.

Accommodation

The RunAway Camp, Manali is as much a means for you to getaway and immerse yourself in the destination as it is a means for you to improve your running skills. We have gone the distance and hand-picked an accommodation option that will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of this mountain town.
The Iris Cottage and Stays are set in a 80 year old heritage as the first headquarters for the Western Himalayan Mountaineer Institute (now “Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports” abbreviated to ABVIMAS). Spread across a 10 acre apple orchard, the property offers exceptional views of Himalayan ranges and River Beas. Besides apple trees, there are other fruits like cherries, strawberries and walnut trees within the orchard.
The overall ambience is perfect for learning, tranquility and yes, amazing photographs!

The property also has a cafe which justifies the views from all sides. The carefully included meals on this trip are mostly vegetarian with locally sourced and at times home-grown vegetables but you can expect an occasional meal to include a non-vegetarian dish. The wi-fi internet bandwidth is highest speed available here in the region.

NOTE: We reserve the right to change the itinerary and the property if it serves the camp needs and our runners better.

Booking Conditions

Do I need to be at a specific level of running to participate in this coaching camp?
The coaching program has been designed to help runners of all abilities. It will be beneficial if you have been running on a regular basis in the recent past. Your performance level as a runner has no impact on your ability to participate in this program although the ability to run a comfortable 10K will lead to a better experience.

I am not an ultra or trail runner as such. Is this camp appropriate for me?
The coaching program has been designed for 'runners' as such and includes a mix of all experiences - hills, trails, roads etc. You will explore a new terrain on your runs each day, mostly what you can't experience or enjoy in cities. While there are sessions on ultra and trail running included in the program most of the modules are generic, focussed on becoming a better runner as such.

What is the best way to travel in and out of Manali?
Manali is well connected by road with Chandigarh and Kullu that have airports.
If you choose to arrive at Kullu (Bhuntar Airport) you can take a taxi to Manali town (maximum 1.5 hours drive) and expect to pay between Rs.1800 to Rs.3000 per car depending on the car you choose. Taxis can be booked from the cab stand at the airport.
However, we recommend flying in and out of Chandigarh and taking an overnight bus both ways. Chandigarh is well connected to most metros and flights are much less pricey than to Kullu. Here are some of the flights we would recommend. Please check the final times and flight numbers at the time of booking since the details complied here may change at the airlines descretion.

FLYING INTO CHANDIGARH (28th April)
From Mumbai    G8 2506 Departs 1710 Arrives 1930
From Delhi    AI 9831 Departs 1935 Arrives 2045
From Bangalore 6E6651 Departs 1910 Arrives 2150
From Kolkatta 6E6701 Departs 2130 Arrives 2355
From Ahemdabad 6E6506 Departs 2010 Arrives 2200

If you are travelling from Chennai you can connect via Bangalore and if you are travelling from Pune the best connections are via Mumbai. Once you arrive at Chandigarh you can take an overnight bus. Most buses arrive at Manali before 08.30 am. This is the most comfortable and economical way of travelling to Manali

FLYING OUT OF CHANDIGARH (04th May)
To Mumbai  6E5545 Departs 0715 Arrives 0935
To Delhi 6E2177 Departs 0735 Arrives 0830
To Bangalore 6E849 Departs 0725 Arrives 1015
To Kolkata 6E6702 Departs 0820 Arrives 1045
To Ahemdabad 6E6056 Departs 0625 Arrives 0810

If you are travelling to Chennai the best return connection is via Delhi and if you are travelling to Pune the best connection is via Mumbai.
The program starts at 4 pm on Day 1 and ends at 6 pm on Day 5.
Buses leave Manali at 09.00 pm and reach Chandigarh by 4 am giving you the chance to take the first flight out from the city. Here are the recommended flights for this program.
There is also a helicopter service between Kullu and Chandigarh thrice a week and you can book and view the schedule here.

What is the cancellation policy for this trip?
Given the uncertain times we live in, we understand that the unexpected may happen. However once confirmed we will be making non-refundable payments to several vendors. Should it become impossible for you to attend the program the following cancellation terms will apply:
21 days before arrival: No cancellation charges
Between 20 and 11 days of the event: 25% of full trip price
Less than 10 days - 50% of full trip price
You may transfer spot and room to another runner at any point at zero cancellation.

How can I safeguard against cancellation losses in case I am unable to travel for this trip?
Book with confidence: opt for Active Holiday Company's No-Risk Insurance Option.
Our No-Risk Insurance of Rs.1,999 allows you a full refund of your trip payment if you need to cancel your reservation up to 48 hours before the start of the trip for any reason. This is valid only for bookings made for our retreat programs.
This is how this works:
Your No-Risk Insurance option allows us to cover costs for our small suppliers against last minute cancellations if you are unable to make it during these uncertain times.
You do not need to pay an additional amount of Rs.1,999 at the time of booking. However, if you have opted for the No-Risk Insurance at the time of booking, we will simply retain the premium of Rs.1,999 and refund the full payment back to you.
The only condition is that you choose this option at the time of booking (you can't opt in at a later date).
It's really that simple.
What happens if you need to cancel your booking within 48 hours of the trip start?
Cancellations within 48 hours under this policy are accepted only if you or someone you have been with in the previous 10 days has tested positive for COVID-19 virus. A copy of the medical test report needs to be submitted.
When a booking is cancelled under this policy within 48 hours of departure we will issue a credit note and transfer your payment to any trip you choose (subject to the availability of the trip) to take before 31 Dec 2022. You are free to transfer this payment to another traveller as well.

What safety precautions do you have in place at the coaching camp during these times of COVID?
Here are some protocols we have put in place to make your safety a priority.
•    Temperature check for all on arrival
•    Regular sanitization of facilities and equipment at the location
•    All staff on location will be wearing masks
•    Social distancing during training sessions
•    Personal equipment to be carried by all participants - list will be shared in registration kit.
If you do not feel well on the day of the camp or if you have been in contact with someone who has tested COVID positive, we recommend that you do not attend and defer your spot to the next coaching retreat.

Is it possible for me to attend the coaching camp and opt out of staying at the location?
Since all activities are planned around our accommodation this program is not available without the stay. Moreover, a large part of the program will be your interaction and camaraderie with other participants which is possible only if everyone stays together.

Can my family / friends join this trip?
Yes. You are welcome to bring along companions, even if they are not interested in running. There are plenty of outdoorsy things to do around Manali that can keep them busy when you are attending the coaching sessions.

I have limited time at my disposal. Is it possible to leave the program on Sunday night?
Barring the long run on Monday morning (which promises to be fun!), most of your learning will be wrapped up by Sunday night. You can opt to leave on Sunday night and take the first flight back home the next morning. Unfortunately, since all facilities have been negotiated as a group there is no reduction in price for leaving early.

What if Active Holiday Company cannot find someone for me to share the room with?
We do get requests from several runners interested in sharing a room with another runner. However, this is not a guarantee and should we not find someone for you to share the room with you might be required to take a single supplement.

What sort of meals can I expect?
Manali is used to welcoming travellers from around the world and finding food of your choice is not difficult at all. All breakfast and dinners are included. Your included meals will be simple vegetarian local meals with breakfasts such as paranthas or poha with tea or coffee. Dinner everyday will be rice, roti, with a dal and vegetable. You will be free for lunch everyday and there are plenty of cafes to explore with chinese, italian, israeli, Indian meal options for lunch on your own.

Will I have time to myself to catch up with work emails etc.?
We have carefully planned your day to give you a good balance of running, learning and free time. All mornings start with a run and  evenings end with a talk, dinner and possibly a documentary / movie screening. During the day you will have either a morning or an afternoon coaching session leaving you with a block of time combinable with lunch free to catch up with work or plan your own excursions with family / companions if they are coming along.

What if I am unable to cope with the training?
All the sessions are designed to help the runners learn new skills. In the rare instance where a participant is unable to follow along, he/she can take a momentary break and reach out to the coach at the end of the session to understand their limitation and the steps to be taken to overcome the limitation in the near future.
